  Health and Healing

Health is not just the absence of disease or symptoms, but a sense of real well-being, of quality of life.

The ‘Story’ of Illness photo of iceberg
The iceberg is a perfect analogy of what I call the ‘Story of Illness’. What you see above the water relates to the symptoms: the headache, allergy, pain, immune and digestive disorders, heart disease...

What lies below the surface of the water relates to what I call the ‘story’ of the illness. These are all the factors that came together to set the conditions for the illness to occur, like: hereditary tendencies, poor diet, toxins, accidents, trauma, stress, fears and worries, unresolved life experiences and environmental influences such as a stressful work situation or a disharmonious relationship.

We can unravel this story and return the body to its natural ability to heal itself, by tapping into its innate wisdom via biofeedback, identifying what is out of balance and what the body needs to restore health.

The body’s innate wisdom talks to us all the time. When we feel hungry or thirsty, or have pain or some other symptom, it is trying to get our attention, telling us there is something we need to take care of. The body can
only do its job as well as we support it by providing food, rest, exercise and joyful attitudes. And at times professional help may be necessary to understand what the body is trying to tell us with the symptoms and to facilitate the return to health and balance. Read more...

The Mind-Body Connection: Key to Real Health
The body and mind are inseparable; every thought has a physiological response. This knowledge is reflected even in our language. We say:
  • 'I cannot stomach that', when receiving some bad news.
  • 'She died from a broken heart' (see article).
  • 'Scared stiff'
  • 'She worried herself sick'

Stress and its Effects on the Body and the Ability to Heal
An increasing body of research tells us 70-80% of all illnesses are a direct result of chronic stress!
Dr. Bruce Lipton, PhD., states in his book "The Biology of Belief" that close to 95% of all illnesses are the results of stress. Only about 2-5% of illnesses are genetic. For an educational article on the New Biology by Dr. Lipton please visit his website.
Almost every major illness that people acquire has been linked to chronic stress.

Common Stressors
Concerns, worries, fears or overwhelm about:
  • Safety
  • Health
  • Finances
  • Work
  • Relationships
  • Self-worth
  • The ability to perform
  • Unresolved life experiences
  • Physical or emotional trauma
  • Loss of a loved one

Why is stress such a serious problem?
What happens to our body when under stress?
  • Adrenalin and cortisol is released, preparing the body for a fight/flight response.
  • This shuts down the immune and digestive systems, redirecting energy to the muscles, leaving us prone to infections and digestive disorders.
  • It also postpones growth and regeneration necessary to replace worn out cells in the body. For example: The cellular lining of our gut is replaced every 72 hours; two million red blood cells die every second and need to be replaced by new ones. While under stress this regeneration is stopped or inhibited.
  • Communication between body systems is compromised.
  • Brain function and clarity of rational thought is reduced.

Consequences of low level chronic stress
  • High blood pressure and heart disease
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Digestive problems
  • Compromised immune system
  • Sleeping disorders
  • Exhausted adrenals
  • Fatigue
  • Foggy mind, difficulty with memory
  • Premature aging

  Solutions
  1. Eliminate Stress
  2. We can change the way we experience the world by identifying and changing our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us which are causing us stress.
    • Beliefs determine our biological and behavioral reality. The body and mind are inseparable; every thought has a physiological response. For example: anger raises heart rate and blood pressure, fear activates the fight/flight mechanism as described above.
    • Beliefs can be both conscious and unconscious and are derived from information and/or experience. Usually by the age of four years old our personality and attitudes towards life have been formed. Unless we change these beliefs at the subconscious level we will often recreate unwanted or self-sabotaging behaviors and experiences. Read more...
    • Change our beliefs and we change the way we experience reality.

  3. Heal Our Body
  4. Heal the damage already done: the illnesses & imbalances already manifested in the body.
    • Restoring communication within the body/mind.
    • Balancing and synchronizing body functions.
    • Returning the body to its natural ability to heal itself.
    • Without the use of drugs, supplements or invasive means.

The source of illness maybe many...
  • Stress do to overwhelm, worry, fear, anxiety or limiting beliefs.
  • Environmental factors like toxins, allergies, chronic viruses or infections.
  • An injury that did not heal well.
  • Physical or emotional trauma.
  • Hereditary tendencies.
The list of symptoms and causes are endless. Every illness can have a number of different causes and each person’s story is unique. Therefore each session is uniquely tailored for your specific needs and priorities. My work is to uncover and resolve the story, restore communication in the body and return it to better balance and I often see virtual miracles in my client’s recovery.

Whether you want to change limiting beliefs that are causing stress in your life or are already experiencing illness and are looking to improve your health - I can work with you to achieve your goal!
